Business continues to grow in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi - DED seeks to develop system of commercial activity at local level through implementing best practices

The total number of the new commercial licences issued in the emirate of Abu Dhabi and registered at Abu Dhabi Business Centre affiliated to the Department of Economic Development (DED) hit 4,538 during the first half of the year 2017, with 2,330 new licences during the first quarter and 2,208 in the second quarter.
The half-annual report of the Abu Dhabi Business Centre (ADBC) stated that the total number of commercial licences in the city of Abu Dhabi amounted up to 111,039 commercial, industrial and tourist permits, with 71,696 in Abu Dhabi, 30,605 in the Eastern Region in Al Ain and 8,738 in Al Dhafrah.
Khalifa bin Salem Al Mansouri, Under-secretary of the Department of Economic Development, said that the Abu Dhabi government has been keen to cement the role of the commercial activity in the emirate through continuing the implementation of projects and initiatives that aim to develop on continuous basis the registration system of business in Abu Dhabi by reducing procedures, time and cost of business practicing in the emirate. This step will attract investments and contribute to create an attractive business environment, enhancing Abu Dhabi's competitiveness.
Al Mansouri stated that the movement of regular commercial licences reflects the extent of the rising economic activity in the emirate despite the global markets crises and impacts. It shows the great interest of the business community and national and foreign investors to avail themselves of an opportunity, thanks to the existing administrative and legislative systems in the emirate, observing the best international standards and practices that enabled it to achieve tangible progress in international competitiveness reports.
The DED, Al Mansouri added, seeks, according to its strategy 2016-20, to develop the system of commercial activity at the local level through implementing the best practices in the world in this field in a way that fits the goals set forth in Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030.
The results of the movement of commercial licences for the first half of the year reflect the continuation of applications submitted by enterprises, business people, UAE nationals or foreigners, indicating that this pace goes in harmony with a package of procedures and facilities provided by the department recently aiming at facilitating permits of business activity and quick execution of transactions.
