A man allegedly cheated another of Dh925,650 by selling him a flat, which he did not own, the Court of First Instance was told on Sunday.

He allegedly forged, together with a runaway accomplice, a document falsely stating that he was the owner of a flat and which he falsely claimed was issued by the Dubai Land Department.

The case dates back to between December 2014 and June 2015 and was reported to Al Barsha police.
The defendant managed, together with his accomplice to deceive the complainant and prove that he owned that flat. He showed him the title deed to sustain his claims.

The complainant, a 51-year-old Egyptian businessman, said that during the investigation he had dealt with someone who pretended to be from a real estate office: "We had an agreement that I bought a flat in a tower which was allegedly registered in the name of the man on trial".

The complainant said that he became convinced that the accused was the owner after the latter showed him the property document citing him as the owner :"I paid him amounts on several occasions to buy the property".
A letter from the Land Department said that the flat, subject of the case, was not registered in the name of the defendant or that of his accomplice.
A verdict is expected on December 13.
