A businessman has been sentenced to one year in jail for breaking into a shop in Naif and robbing 82 cameras and 8 digital printers.
The Court of First Instance ordered that the 30-year-old Pakistani accused be deported after completing his jail term.
According to prosecution records, the businessman made away with the stolen goods, including electronics and Dh3,300 in cash, together with two other runaway accomplices at night on March 1.
The court convicted him of charges including forced robbery at night and damage of property.
A police sergeant said they caught the accused after the robbery was reported.
The shop employee, who reported the incident, said he locked the shop at around 10:00 pm the day before the incident.
"When confronted with the charge, the accused admitted. He claimed he waited for the two other thieves in his car. They split the goods later," the sergeant said.
His fingerprints were not found in the shop.
Some of the stolen items were recovered from his place.
A Comoros Islands passport holder, who works at the shop, said that the stolen goods are worth Dh73,732. He added that the robbery was caught on the CCTV cameras of a nearby shop.
The ruling may be appealed.
