dubai - To create a difference in the lives of refugee children, Sabari Indian School conducted a 'Children for Children' initiative under the patronage of the Consulate General of India, and in association with Red Crescent, Dubai.
The school began the week-long initiative on November 14, Indian Children's Day, that culminated in a finale event on November 20, International Children's Day. The initiative saw active participation from students from Grades four to six, from The Indian Academy Sharjah, The Indian Academy Dubai, Springdales School Dubai, JSS Private School Dubai, ASPAM Indian International School, India International School Sharjah, Delhi Private School Dubai, The Central School, The Kindergarten Starters, Robin Singh Sports Academy, Gems Millennium School Sharjah, and The Emirates National School Sharjah.
Sabari Indian School urged students to sport the spirit of giving by contributing to underprivileged children of their age. The event saw the attendance of Vipul, Consul-General of India in Dubai; Pankaj Bodkhe, Consul (Education), Robin Singh, former cricketer and coach, and representatives from other Indian schools in the UAE.
"We are doing a good job if we instil the consciousness in children to help underprivileged children of their age. As they grow into adulthood they will be more conscious of their responsibility towards other people, and develop a better, more cohesive, and harmonious world," Vipul told Khaleej Times.
"India and the UAE have shared very good ties, and we would like to take it further and show solidarity with Year of Giving," said Bodhke.
Latha Venkateswar, principal of Sabari Indian School, said: "Children are the future citizens and they should grow with the value of giving.
The finale event included dance performances by the students of Sabari Indian School, a Zumba session, an address to the students on the relationship between the Dubai Police and children, and a message from the consul-general.
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates and a token of appreciation to all schools that participated.
