Security cameras have been made mandatory for all multi-storey buildings under construction in Dubai from March 1.
All buildings with permits to make four floors and more should place at least four surveillance cameras to monitor the interior and exterior areas of the construction site, as part of new regulations issued for under-construction buildings in Dubai.
The Dubai Municipality's Buildings Department has issued the new rules to promote standards of sustainability, improve public health and maintain the aesthetic appearance of the city, the director of the department, Khalid Mohammed Saleh, said.
As per the circular issued to consultants and contracting companies, the surveillance cameras can be fixed on cranes or at any other elevated place overlooking the site to monitor the safety and security aspects. These cameras should be linked to a monitoring system for smart surveillance of the project during and after the construction.
All under-construction sites should instal temporary PVC fencing - not less than two metres and without leaving a gap of more than 5cm between the fences - surrounding the area of the project.
There should be separate waste disposal pipes like garbage chutes on each floor and they should all be connected till the ground floor where containers should be kept for safe removal of construction waste.
The exterior of the buildings under construction shall be covered with protective materials, and approved pest control companies have to be contracted to ensure the sites remain free of rodents, mosquitoes, flies and other pests.
