The Higher Committee for Registration of Medicines of the Ministry of Health (MoH), has approved 60 new medicines, which include seven biological medicines and 53 other drugs, produced by local and international pharmaceutical groups.
The approvals came during a meeting headed by Dr. Amin Hussein Al Amiri, Assistant Under-Secretary for Public Health Policy and Licensing, and Vice-Chairman of the MoH's Higher Committee for Registration of Medicines, at the ministry in Dubai.
The new medicines, Dr Amin Al Amiri said, were created to treat diseases such as cancer, diabetes, high cholesterol level and impotence. He added that the committee includes a number of experts from the MoH, local health authorities and national universities.
Al Amiri explained that many of new innovative medicines have been registered in the UAE in conjunction with the source countries.
While considering the new innovative drugs, the ministry has rejected applications of pharmaceutical companies that requested a rise in price of their medicines.
