The Department of Transport (DoT) is studying the possibility of releasing technical guidelines for the management of milled asphaltic materials generated from road maintenance and rehabilitation projects in Abu Dhabi.
The DoT project aims to develop procedures, operational policies and technical specifications for managing milled asphaltic materials. The DoT will also evaluate the environmental and economic impact of the project.
Every year, a large quantity of milled asphaltic materials is generated from the rehabilitation and maintenance work carried out by the DoT and other government and private entities.
"The DoT endeavours to explore practical solutions to recycle and reuse these materials in the construction and maintenance of roads and other related fields.
"The DoT believes that recycling and reusing milled asphaltic materials will have a significant impact on ... sustainability and environmental conservation," said the DoT in a Press statement.
The project will help curb the need for digging new borrow pits and reduce air pollution. Once implemented, the guidelines will contribute to rationalising the impact of transporting materials from quarries.
