Are there are statistics about the elderly population in Dubai?
Yes, there is an estimated number from Dubai Statistics Centre, which we use on planning our services. we registered 5,400 elderly people (60 years old and above) in Thukher Card. our team is communicating with them to transfer and register them in other elderly services which suits their cases.
How many members do you have in the Thukher social club and how many Emiratis avail the home care/weleef benefits?
All of our customers are Emirati citizens. Thukher Social Club has 122 people and Social home Care/ weleef has 114.
Can you comment on old people feeling lonely? And what young people in Dubai can do to help?
Old people, especially after retirement, and when their children live separately, feel lonely, and that emptiness causes depression. they need someone who can speak to them, care about their needs and activities to occupy their free time. Weleef team can give them the social care, coordination to complete their needs and do the daily activities inside or outside the home in order to integrate them into society.
Volunteers can register in weleef programme where they can visit old people and help in daily activities such as; reading a book, talking and listening to them, drawing, heritage activities, helping them in cooking, preparing his house and making sure the house and the elderly environment is clean and safe.
Anyone interested and want to volunteering in weleef programme can call 8002121 or register in the App (CDA Volunteers)
