The Sharjah Police have urged motorists to inspect their tyres regularly during summer to avoid fatal accidents caused by tyre bursts due to high temperature.
Lt Saud Al Shaiba, director of the awareness department at the Sharjah Police, said that during the last two years, several people were killed or received serious injuries due to accidents caused by faulty tyres.
He said: "The temperature sometimes reaches up to 50 degrees that makes the road surfaces to become very hot, which causes the old and worn-out tyre to burst in the highways and lead to horrific accidents."
Lt Al Shaiba added that the police's inspection and awareness campaigns will continue throughout the summer because it was found out that some drivers arrange tyres for one or two days just to pass registration tests, and later get back their old ones.
"The motorists do this because they just want to save some money, ignoring that such kind of violation could cost them their lives," he said.
Lt Al Shaiba added that some of the motorists also buy used tyres, which are mostly found valid for the road.
It may help them pass the inspection, but it will not last a long timet. It's better to buy new tyres instead of changing used tyers from time to time.
The official said that truck drivers must also ensure the safety of their tyres, and replace them if they are expired. The explosion of heavy truck tyres could cause serious accidents, even death.
He explained that during the campaign, the police would inspect trucks' faulty tyres.
Drivers of trucks having counterfeit or worn tyres would be fined Dh500, given four black points and their vehicles will be seized for one week as a disciplinary measure.
All the motorists are advised to check their tyre pressure, balance, and alignment.
