A cleaner, who allegedly tried to kill the site supervisor by stabbing him, claimed he ill treated, the Court of First Instance was told.
According to prosecution records, the 20-year-old Pakistani cleaner planned the knife attack against the Indian supervisor with whom he had some previous disputes. On the incident day, he brought a knife to work which he hid under a newspaper. He tried to take the supervisor by surprise by first trying to check with him about his duties. He then suddenly pulled out the knife and tried to stab him, but he was stopped by other workers on the site.
He reportedly admitted during the questioning that he had a grudge against his supervisor and had planned to finish him off as the latter was mistreating him at work.
He has been charged with premeditated attempted murder.
The incident happened at 6am on May 30 when the workers had just arrived to work. The defendant could have stabbed the victim the second time had he not been stopped by other workers.
The 33-year-old supervisor said the attack took place when they reached for work at a building in Motor City at 6am. "As I was done assigning duties to the workers, the accused came to me. He asked me what work he should do, and I told him to do the same job he was asked to do earlier."
But the supervisor was shocked to see the cleaner suddenly taking out a knife from a folded newspaper.
"I stepped back to avoid the knife while the other workers grabbed the cleaner. But he got away from them and attack me again. He was stopped before he could reach me," the supervisor told the prosecutor.
The complainant went and hid in the storage room which he locked fearing for his life.
A police sergeant said they arrested the cleaner soon after an attack incident was reported to Al Barsha police.
"We learnt about a problem in a residential building in Dubai Sports City.
The accused confessed to us he wanted to kill the supervisor as the latter had been harassing and bothering him at work."
The court adjourned the hearing to October 3.
