Combating coronavirus: Sharjah bans workers from travelling to other emirates

Sharjah - The measure was put in place to ensure social distancing and protect public health amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

Transporting Sharjah workers outside the emirate is now prohibited as part of the Covid-19 precautions, according to a new circular issued by the Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) on Wednesday, April 15.

Non-resident workers will also not be allowed to enter the emirate, the advisory said. Violators shall face administrative penalties.

Sultan Abdullah bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, chairman of the SEDD, said the measure was put in place to ensure social distancing and protect public health amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

Al Suwaidi pointed out that some establishments are excluded from the directive. Among them are those involved in cleaning, food industry and private security.

In such cases, the number of passengers in transport vehicles must not exceed half of the capacity. All workers must also be wearing masks, and the safety distance of 2m between people must be maintained, he added.

These measures were added to a host of other precautions that must be followed at construction sites and accommodations.
