The '10 million meals' campaign, the UAE's biggest food distribution drive, continues to receive donations from businessmen, companies, institutions and individuals. On Friday, the first day of Ramadan, Lulu International Group, Union Coop, and the Hussain Sajwani-DAMAC Foundation has pledged to provide 125,000 meals to those affected by the Covid-19 coronavirus.
Indian businessman, Yussuff Ali MA, chairman of Lulu International Group, donated Dh1 million to provide 125,000 meals to communities affected by the outbreak in the UAE.
Yussuff Ali said small measures is the simplest gesture we can do to support the needy in such times. He stated, "These honorable initiatives launched by the wise leadership in the UAE and the UAE's people are remarkably contributing to the fact that we live in the capital of humanity and charitable work in the world."
The campaign was launched under the directions of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and led by his wife Her Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of UAE Food Bank.
Union Coop also announced the donation of Dh1 million to provide 125,000 meals to those in need. Khalid Humaid bin Theban, executive chairman of the Union Cooperative said supporting the '10 million meals' campaign complements similar social programmes and initiatives that the hypermarket chain executes all year long.
"Every year, Union Coop allocates efforts to support vital sectors like healthcare, SMEs and people of determination.
"The '10 million meals' campaign reflects the values of tolerance, coexistence and giving that we have always seen as integral part of the UAE," he said.
The Hussain Sajwani-DAMAC Foundation has also pledged Dh1 million to provide 125,000 meals. Hussain Sajwani, founder and chairman of DAMAC Properties, said, "it's an honor for every entity and company to support the '10 million meals' campaign as it serves the noble cause of beating hunger. The campaign provides a basic life necessity that brings a sense of safety and reassurance to people facing the most uncertain times."
