Coronavirus: UAE announces 553 new cases

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Friday announces 553 new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, taking the total number of cases in the country to 16, 793.
As many as 265 new cases of recovery, as well as nine deaths, were also announced.
Additional 41,000 Covid-19 tests were conducted by the Ministry of Health and Prevention, revealing 553 new cases and bringing the total number of cases to 16,793. The new cases identified are receiving treatment, the ministry added.

The month of May has witnessed an increase in recoveries from coronavirus. The recovery average stands at 150 cases this month while there was an average of 100 recoveries in the previous months.

This steady increase in recoveries is courtesy the extensive testing being carried out across the country.
The ministry has also called upon the public to adhere to health guidelines and instructions from the relevant authorities, particularly concerning social distancing, for the sake of the health and safety of all.

Also, @mohapuae announced that nine people of different nationalities who tested positive for COVID-19 died due to complications. This brings the total death toll to 174. The Ministry of Health and Prevention expressed sincere condolences to the families of the deceased.

Most recently, a new testing centre has been launched in Abu Dhabi's industrial area of Musaffah, where thousands of residents and blue-collar workers were screened and the results were made available within 48 hours.

Meanwhile, even though malls have started welcoming customers, the government has advised that senior citizens and children must remain at home.

Earlier this week, the MoHaP and the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority in a joint announcement stated that people over the age of 60 and children younger than 12 are prohibited from entering shopping malls, cooperative societies, and supermarkets. They are also prohibited from entering retail stores located outside shopping centres.
Repatriations from the UAE gather pace

India on Thursday launched a massive repatriation operation for distressed citizens with two flights that carried 363 people from the UAE while Pakistan completed phase-4 of its mission by airlifting more than 7,000 people from the country.

Pakistan International Airlines repatriated 550 people to Faisalabad and Lahore and Indian expats left on board Air India Express aircraft on Thursday.

Indian passengers from Abu Dhabi and Dubai landed in Kochi and Kozhikode later in the evening. They will go into quarantine for two weeks.
