Bonding with the family was a top priority for UAE residents this weekend followed by sterilisation of their homes, according to a Khaleej Times poll.
Reaching out to a total of 4,719 readers across its social media platforms, Khaleej Times quizzed readers about how they spent their 'Sanitisation Drive' weekend in the UAE.
Seven eighty-nine users responded on Twitter, and 3,930 users responded on Instagram and said 'bonding with family was the most important priority of readers. About 1,580 users responded positively to family time on Instagram and 234 on Twitter.
Approximately 23.2 per cent of the readers took this time to sterilize their own homes, with 904 positive responses on Instagram and 192 on Twitter. Furthermore, 24.6 per cent of the respondent said they used this time to relax, unwind, and detox. Figures ranged from 952 on Instagram and 208 on Twitter amounting to 1,160 responses.
Study and work from home over the weekend was a priority for eight per cent of the total respondents, with 155 responses on Twitter and 494 on Instagram. Riaz Ahmed, a UAE resident said, "I am going to take this time to sterilize my home." Faizan Mannan said, "Still going to work this weekend."
However, residents kept their spirits up my spontaneously bursting into cheers from their balconies. UAE citizens, expats expressed their support for the medical community and heroes of the national sanitization programme by singing the UAE national anthem from their balconies Thursday night as well.
Jaber Al Lamki, the executive director of media and strategic communications, National Media Council posted the video on his Twitter feed stating, "There are moments in life when you try to express your feelings of pride but you can't! This video does it nicely #Solidarity #Discipline and #Respect. Thank you to #MyUAE community for singing the national anthem with us to cheer up the heroes on the streets #StayHome." Residents were seen singing the national anthem and cheering loudly in the video.
