Couple on trial in UAE for using abusive words in pleadings

Ras Al Khaimah - The couple were involved in another case over a family dispute.

Two Gulf nationals have appeared at the Ras Al Khaimah Misdemeanour Court for insulting each other during a trial.
The couple were involved in another case over a family dispute at the Personal Status Court, but the RAK public prosecution charged them both with using abusive words in the defence pleadings they submitted.
Records show that the husband specifically used three abusive words against his wife, but the man denied the charges, explaining that he was only describing the disputes that happened between them.
The woman's defence lawyer said that by using such words, the man dishonoured his wife.
"This cannot be considered a description of a dispute or self-defence," he told the court. "These are clearly very indecent words against the honour of my client."
However, the woman reportedly did the same in her pleading, so the prosecution referred both of them to the misdemeanours court.
In her defence, the lawyer said the words used were common legal terms and no insults were included.
"She never meant to insult or dishonour her husband," he added.
The trial was adjourned to September 30 for the verdict.
