Muslims suffering from respiratory or immunity issues are urged to stay home for prayers amid the global Covid-19 epidemic, according to a fatwa issued by the UAE Sharia Ifta Council on Tuesday. They do not need to attend congregational prayers, Friday sermon or Eid prayers, it added.
"All society members need to strictly observe the health and regulatory instructions announced by the bodies concerned, and take all precautionary measures to reduce the risk of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) infection and transmission," the council said.
"Senior people, young children, and anyone suffering from a respiratory or immune issue are permitted to pray at home or wherever they are." (Coronavirus outbreak: All the latest updates)
Those affected by the virus must get themselves quarantined and stick to all prescriptions so as not to infect others, it added.
In fact, the fatwa also stated that it is 'haram' (prohibited) for any Covid-19 patient to show up and interact with people in public places.
Those who are set to go on Haj and Umrah are urged to follow the instructions of the Saudi Government, in support of its effort to protect public health.
"We should all show full cooperation with the bodies concerned to curb this contagious disease and prevent its transmission," the fatwa read.

The council also stressed the need to rely only on authorities for information and refrain from spreading rumours.
