Covid-19 volunteers have been a big help in UAE's fight against pandemic: Police

Abu Dhabi - Volunteers have been going around different areas, spreading awareness and distributing food and medical supplies.

Hundreds of citizens and residents have been serving as volunteers in the UAE's fight against the pandemic. And in this time of Covid-19, their work has become a 'national duty', the Abu Dhabi Police said.
Volunteers of different nationalities have been a big help for the force, police said. They have been going around different areas, spreading awareness in communities and distributing food and medical supplies to workers and pedestrians.
In a recent virtual session titled 'We are All Police', Col Dr Hamoud Saeed Al-Afari, director of the community police department, said volunteer work has become an important part of the initiatives rolled out to address the challenges emerging from the global health crisis.
Lt-Col Hajj Mabkhoot Al Menhali, head of the 'We are All Police' programme, said: "Volunteers deliver security and awareness messages to citizens, residents and all communities in workers' areas, addressing them in their native languages."
They have also been providing support in educating workers on preventive measures, including proper wearing of face masks and maintaining social distancing.
The Abu Dhabi Police said their volunteer teams have helped distribute 26,000 Iftar meals to workers in Mussafah Industrial City and handed out face masks and gloves to those at the Workers' Village on Al Reem Island. They have even encouraged people to get active in Abu Dhabi city, under the slogan "For your safety".
Tasks are carefully assigned to volunteers, prioritising their safety as they perform their duties, police said.
Police officers have always advised the public to comply with the precautionary measures taken by the country and the directives issued by government entities to curb the spread of Covid-19. Staying at home, practising social distancing, wearing face masks, maintaining good hand hygiene, and avoiding gatherings are some of the primary guidelines.
