The Gujarati community in the Capital got together to revel as Monday night marked the last day of the Navratri festival.
'Dandiya 2016' saw a vibrant mix of colourful costumes and traditional folk dance of dandiya raas at the nine-night event organised by the Gujarati Samaj, Abu Dhabi.
Songs by 'Queen of Dandiya' Falguni Pathak and hits from Bollywood movies filled the premises of the Indian Social and Cultural Centre. Gujarati Samaj Abu Dhabi president Tushar Patni said the festivities were a 'grand success'.
"We had 800 to 1,000 people on the floor on most days. Good thing is about 80 per cent of the attendance is by families. So, people are here in full force to celebrate and keep the tradition alive," he said.
This time, entry was free, Patni added. "We had close to 1,300 participants a day. On the whole, this is one of the biggest participation for Navratri. It's good to see people coming out and enjoying the festival together with dance and music," he said. Age was no barrier during the festivities in which the children, the old and the young, bonded with dandiya sticks.
