Reports such as the 2015 Arab Knowledge Index could help promote understanding of the region around the world, according to the Vice-Chancellor of Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi.
In an interview with Khaleej Times, Dr Eric Fouache said that the report demonstrates to the world that Arab nations are capable of collecting vitally important data.
"Showing that the Arab world is able to monitor the social and educational situation to produce this data is showing that the Arab World is at a level of knowledge that makes this possible," he said.
"The first step to knowledge is collecting data. It is very important to show that there is an independent source collecting it."
"That is why the partnership with the UNDP is important. To build trust you need an international partner in association," he added.
"It's a perfect relationship between the MBRF, a really well identified Arab foundation, working with a neutral UN institution. It shows an ability to cooperate on an international level and produce data at the best standard."
Additionally, Fouache said that having a yearly Knowledge Index will help quickly assess the impact on education of the region's often rapid political changes, such as has occurred since 2011.
"When things began to happen with Tunisia and Libya, for example, everyone knew it would have a bad impact on education," he said.
