The untimely death of Shaikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the eldest son of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has sent shock waves across the social media.
An avid sportsman, entrepreneur and a globally-known young leader, Shaikh Rashid died of a heart attack on Saturday morning.
His brothers, Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Shaikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, posted pictures of Shaikh Rashid on social media and expressed grief over his demise. Shaikh Hamdan posted a picture on Instagram along with a text: "Today, I lost a best friend and a childhood companion ...
"My dear brother Rashid, you will be missed."
Shaikh Mansoor also posted a picture on Instagram expressing his agony: "Today I lost my dear brother Rashid. You will be missed."
Employees of Zabeel Stables, owned by Shaikh Rashid, expressed shock at the news of his death."I feel shocked ... He loved equestrian sports. This is a great tragedy," said an employee of Zabeel Stables.
People from all walks of life flocked social media channels to express their grief on the unexpected demise of Shaikh Rashid.
Twitter user @Anthony Permal said: "Condolences to the Maktoum family on their loss, especially Shaikh Mohammed. No father should have to bury his own son."
Dalal Abu Ghazaleh (@dalalghazaleh) said: "My thoughts and prayers for the Maktoum family and the nation."
Abood (Twitter handle @A800d) said: "Rest in Peace Shaikh Rashid, another life (gone) way too soon."
Twitter user @Leone Lakhani said: "Very sad to hear about this. May his soul rest in Peace."
Indian national Mukesh Alwani wrote on Facebook: "So ... young. May his soul rest in peace and God give his family the strength to recover from this tremendous loss."
Twitter user @meronnes said: "There is no word for a parent who loses his child. That is how terrible the loss is."
Abdul Gaffar Abdul said: "The news of Shaikh Rashid's death is a shocking and painful one. He went away too soon. May his soul rest in peace, condolence to Shaikh Mohammed and ... the Maktoum family."
