An Arab man stood trial at the Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court on charges of escaping from police detention.
As per court records, the suspect was facing charges of resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer, consuming alcohol in violation of law, and beating up a nightclub owner as well.
The defendant admitted to fleeing after being detained by the cops. "I was scared because of the charges I am facing in another lawsuit."
He added that he was under the influence of alcohol. "I was not aware of what I was doing," he told the court. However, the man denied insulting or assaulting the nightclub owner and staffers.
"I was only spending a night with friends at the nightclub," he said, denying any assault on the police officer who was trying to detain him.
"I did not throw water on their face nor threatened to take revenge with the help of my brother," he pointed out.
The defence lawyer denied the charges and requested the court to play the footage of the surveillance video cameras at the nightclub.
"This will prove that my client was not involved in any of the charges levelled against him."
The court ordered adjournment of the case for checking the surveillance cameras videos and completing the defence and hearing sessions.
