Promoting the welfare of housemaids working in the country, the UAE announced an insurance plan, as part of the year of Giving initiative.
In this regard, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has forged a partnership with an insurance company that will offer premiums of Dh100 per year for the maids.
The insurance will cover expenses of the sponsor in three cases: if the maid absconds, if she dies or if medical examination shows she is unfit.
The ministry said the move is in line with the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, declaring 2017 as the Year of Giving. The move will support individuals and promote community responsibility, the ministry added.
The ministry announced this during a Press conference at its headquarters on Tuesday along with representatives of AXA Green Crescent, the strategic partner in the initiative; and representatives of the Insurance Commission.
