Buses transporting workers have been banned from plying on the Baniyas Bridge, according to Abu Dhabi Police.
The Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Directorate on Saturday announced that buses transporting labourers will be prevented from using the Baniyas Bridge starting Sunday (September 17).
The move was intended to ensure smooth flow of traffic, promote safety on the roads and reduce traffic accidents that might be caused by the many vehicles transporting workers.

Colonel Salim Abdullah bin Barak Al Dhaheri, director of traffic department for the outer region at the Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Directorate, said, "Banning buses transporting workers from use of the Baniyas Bridge is aimed at reducing congestion on the road."
"I urge all drivers of buses transporting workers to abide by the new rule that bans company buses from the use of the bridge throughout the day."
Al Dhaheri told drivers of such vehicles to use alternative routes that have been designated for trucks and buses.
Bus drivers caught using the banned route will be fined Dh1,000 and get four black points written against their licenses, according to the law.

The official said traffic authorities have coordinated with the Abu Dhabi Municipality and already made the workers aware of the new rule.

Police said they have also installed eight traffic signs along the route to the Baniyas Bridge warning drivers about the ban of workers' buses on the bridge and reminding them about the use of alternative roads.
