The Abu Dhabi Municipality has warned residents against putting up the 'No Parking' signboards or posters near their homes or other premises for purposes of reserving parking spaces for themselves without the authorisation of the authorities concerned.
People caught putting up unlicensed signboards near homes, on building facades, streets and other places face a Dh1,000 fine that must be paid within 30 days.
If the fine is not paid, the offender will be referred to the courts.
The warning follows the increasing number of the 'No Parking' posters and signboards on various streets in residential areas and near villas of Abu Dhabi, and without residents first getting permission from the municipality.
The municipality said putting up any forms of signboards or posters anywhere, without municipal permission is illegal and punishable by the law.
"The municipality prohibits illegal signboards or posters and installations as they distort the city's appearance. Anyway, one wanting to put up or install a signboard near his home of workplace must get approval from the concerned authorities at the Abu Dhabi Municipality," said the municipality officials.
"Also people should avoid putting papers on people's cars claiming that they had used their parking spaces of parked near their homes especially when it is a public space and not designated for any particular person."
Officials warned that illegal signboards spoil the appearance of public area and that people should refrain from the habit.
The municipality also urged the community members to comply with the terms and conditions of posting advertising ads and posters in streets.
"People placing advertising posters or boards on streets, buildings, light poles and other places have to source proper permits to avoid being entangled in offences, as the municipality is keen on boosting partnership and cooperation with the community in protecting public realms and the urban outlook of cities," said the municipality.
The civic body said their teams were doing regular inspection campaigns in various areas of the emirate to crackdown on the violators.
