Authorities in Sharjah issued 28 fines in 2020 for violations like cutting down trees, razing the soil and damaging vegetation. The Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) fined the perpetrators Dh10,000 each.
Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of the EPAA, said: “These fines emphasise our position on violating the rules that have been put in place to protect the environment. Harming the environment results in wilderness areas being destroyed.”
She stressed the importance of continuing to work to protect local plants and trees as they are considered “a national wealth and treasure”.
She said the EPAA preserves these plants by replanting them in their natural habitats. The authority carries out multiple campaigns throughout the year to raise awareness on the need to protect the environment.
