Top artists will create calligraphy designs as part of the National Day celebrations at the Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi from Thursday.
Aldar Properties had earlier released a poem 'Aldar Amra Be'ahalha' (the beauty of our home comes from its people) - written, composed and sung by Emirati artists. Later, the group launched the National Day Calligraphy Competition, calling artists to interpret the poem's title using Arabic calligraphy design. As many as 290 artists submitted their designs. Participants ranged from teenagers to retirees and all showcased a variety of style and ability.
Judges shortlisted 10 entries for the finals and now they will recreate their designs live in the purpose-built installation at the Yas Mall from Thursday till November 13.
The winner will be named on November 14 and will receive Dh100,000 with the runner-up getting Dh50,000. The finalists are Deyaa Allam, Mariam Al Bloushi, Hana Al Suwaidi, Hussam Ahmad Abdulwahab, Jalal Al Mhareb, Fathi Ahmed, Fatima Al Hammadi, Asia Al Harmoudi, Salinas Martinez and Majed Alsudani. They will receive Dh10,000 each to recreate their work. The competition aims to engage the community in promoting a classical form of art, while providing a platform to express national pride.
