Dh20,000 fine for breaking swimming pool rules in UAE

Planning to install a pool to beat the heat this summer, here's what you need to know.

Anyone who operates a swimming pool without obtaining a licence will be fined Dh20,000.
The pool owner and the operator will also be fined Dh2,000 if inspection and/or maintenance records are missing. Any pool found in violation must be promptly removed, said an Al Ittihad report.
Falah Mohammed Al Ahbabi, Chairman of the Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities in Abu Dhabi, had issued a decree regarding the executive regulations pertaining to Law No. (2) of 2012 for tourist pools. 
The provisions of this resolution were published in the latest issue of the Official Gazette issued by the General Secretariat of the Executive Council in Abu Dhabi, on all swimming pools. An exception was made for private residential swimming pools.
Pools can only be installed in accordance with standards, controls and procedures specified in the Municipal manual. The owner and the operator are obliged to provide and maintain inspection records.
If the owner is found to be flouting any rule, he will have to remove the pool within seven days of being notified as per article 8 of the law. The fine will be decided depending on the severity of the violation.
