Residents heaved a sigh of relief as Dhaid intersection was reopened after 31 days of partial closure.
Eman Ameen Al Hajiri, deputy director of maintenance department at Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA), said: "The development works, worth Dh3 million, took place from Suwaihat area to the Talaa area."
The regular maintenance work on the Intersection 2 - one of the major connecting points in the Sharjah roads network - had been carried out during the night; from 12 midnight to 6am. She added that the entire intersection was re-planned and the road was painted with new marks. "All the road diversions signs, meant to curb road congestion at the maintenance site, were removed as well."
She said: "The NMBS German technology has been adopted during the replacement of the expansion joints to avoid full closure of the bridge and reduce labour work. The iron plates used in covering the maintenance areas helped ease traffic flow, and the flexibility of the development works in both directions without any obstruction."
