The Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Police have launched a round the clock toll free number 901 to handle non-emergency queries from the public.
Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police, said: "The new service will help the public avoid contacting police for irrelevant queries on the emergency number 999," he said.
All the reports received are handled in a professional way as per priority, he said.
To handle the calls and reports, major advancements have been introduced at the central operations room. A new work plan has been adopted to provide the best services to the public, he said.
"We are adopting an intensive training programme to develop and enhance policemen's skills and provide the best services to the public."
However, the room is facing some challenges in terms of the big volume of reports, and the reporter's inability to tell the exact location of the accident, he said. "These are apart from irrelevant calls divided into two categories - intentionally and unintentionally disturbing, which are dealt with accordingly." Should any disturbing call be received repetitively, the person concerned will face legal action, he warned.
