Young Emirati, Yusra Mai'youf Al Hattali, has vowed to not let her disability prevent her from achieving her dream to be a famous artist.
In a step towards realising this dream, Al Hattali, who was born with motor neuron disease that led to chronic respiratory failure, recently participated in the Abu Dhabi Art.
Al Khattali, who is 28 years old, participated in the exhibition on an invitation from Shaikha Maryam bint Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Al Hattali enjoys unwavering support from the leadership. On one occasion, she wrote to Lt.-General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, expressing her wish to meet him. He responded immediately and visited her at the medical centre she was in.
Al Hattali expressed gratitude to the prudent leaders of the UAE, who spare no effort to support and help citizens. She also thanked the ProVita Medical Centre, which encouraged her to achieve her dreams.
Michael Davis, CEO of ProVita Medical Centre, praised Al Hattali's strong will.
"Yusra ... enjoys an enlightened mind, a big heart and fingers that paint wonderful and creative (things).
"She is artistically talented, and this is what encouraged the team ... in ProVita centre to help her ... achieve her dream. Her team helped her ... participate in two national art exhibitions since she entered the centre, (and also) helped her go to school five times a week to complete her studies and get a bachelor's degree in the arts."
Al Khattali needs to be hooked up to a permanent ventilator.
She arrived at ProVita when she was 22, after she was bedridden in the ICU for 13 years.
