DNA50 science education exhibition opens at Fujairah Private Academy

Opened on Monday at the Fujairah Private Academy, on the fifth leg of its nationwide tour of the UAE, under the patronage of Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Kindi, Director of the Ruler’s Office, Fujairah, opened the exhibition at a ceremony attended by distinguished guests including Mrs Jan Brettingham, Principal of Fujairah Private Academy, and Mrs Linda Pearson, Education Services Manager at the British Council - the organisers of the exhibition.


Consul-General, Mr Simon Collis, praised the vision of His Highness Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, in establishing Fujairah Private Academy, the first school in the UAE, to cater for Emirati and expatriate students in a bilingual environment, following the British system.

He further highlighted the active role of His Highness in encouraging the development of science education amongst local students.The `DNA50' interactive exhibition tells the story of the discovery of DNA and the developments and applications of this knowledge over the last 50 years, through displays, video and interactive software.

Linda Pearson added: "The British Council is delighted to be staging the 'DNA50' exhibition in Fujairah and grateful for the support and cooperation of Fujairah Private Academy."

"We hope that the exhibition will connect strongly with local students and stimulate their interest in science and we also hope that we will be able to follow this event with further science and other educational activities in Fujairah, organised by the British Council."
