Door-to-door sales people become a nuisance
DOOR-TO-DOOR salespersons have become a nuisance nowadays,
With several residents complaining about such vendors knocking at their doors at all hours with their merchandise. This is indeed a disturbing phenomenon since these vendors, both men and women, hoodwink security guards and enter buildings without authorisation to sell their stuff.
There is no doubt that they are violating the laws of the land, because if they are on a visit visa, they are not supposed to work. And if they are on a labour visa, they should only be working for the company which has sponsored them. The law prohibits them from taking up any other work. Any which way, they are violating the visa rules of the country.
Besides these factors, most of these salespersons are involved in selling fake goods, which are unhealthy and pose serious public health hazard. It also has an adverse impact on the legitimate commercial activity in the country since businessmen have invested a lot of money on licences and infrastructure to trade. And the entry and sale of fake stuff illegally through door-to-door sales eats into their businesses. The authorities need to look seriously into this issue, and take corrective measures.
