A 22-year-old Asian man stabbed his colleague to death for posting a picture of his sister on Facebook, the Sharjah Criminal Court has heard.
Investigations by the public prosecutor revealed that the accused killed his colleague following a squabble.
During the court hearing, the defendant admitted to murdering the compatriot after an altercation, while being under the influence of alcohol. He stated that he was not aware of the number of times he stabbed him, but one of them pierced through the victim's stomach.
The Asian man told the court that he was angry as the victim had posted his sister's photo on Facebook. The two were sitting in the living room when the fight broke out.
He claimed that it was the victim who first attacked him, after which he went into the kitchen and got hold of a knife. He stabbed him several times and later threw the weapon on the ground next to the man's body. The accused then went to the airport and tried to fly out of the country, before he was arrested.
The prosecutor charged the accused with deliberately killing the victim by stabbing him in the abdomen and chest, and consuming alcohol.
The court adjourned the case to February 18 to hear witnesses and know the position of the victim's parents, while checking the possibility of pardoning the accused and receive blood money.
