DTCM Manager Overseas Promotions, Ibrahim Ahli, said that Imex draws decision-makers from incentive, business, travel and meetings industry from all parts of the world and is the only event to combine attendance by a major German outbound market with hosted international buyers.

"The event comprises about 2,000 exhibitors representing 100 countries and will receive about 5,500 international visitors including 2,500 hosted buyers," said Mr Ahli.

He stated that Imex is an ideal venue where Dubai can showcase its state-of-the-art incentive travel, meetings and events facilities.

"Dubai is flourishing with new developments, especially in the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (Mice) sector. Imex provides an ideal opportunity to present all these facilities all to a wide international audience," said Mr Ahli.

He noted that Dubai would be hosting the annual IMF/World Bank Conference in September 2003, which affirms its position as a most preferred Mice destination in the region.

"New initiatives on Dubai Convention Bureau and Dubai Convention Centre will be announced soon. These are to support the increasing demand of Mice sector in the emirate," said Mr Ahli.

He said that Germany was one of the largest tourism source markets. "With an increase of 15.19 per cent in the number of hotel establishment guests in 2002 compared to 2001, Germany contributes substantially in terms of growing inbound tourism to the emirate," said Mr Ahli.
