Authorities in Dubai have confiscated more than 400,000 packs of cigarettes during intensive inspections carried out on stores and warehouses selling tobacco products in the emirate.

According to a report in Al Bayan, Dubai Municipality seized about 416,744 packs of cigarettes that failed to conform to the approved UAE specifications and that didn't bear tax stamps.
More than 26 tonnes of paan (chewing tobacco) were also confiscated from the warehouses located in the Ras Al Khor area.
Dr Naseem Muhammad Rafi, Director of Health and Safety Department at Dubai Municipality, stated that the tobacco products had been confiscated by the Federal Tax Authority, and the paan destroyed in accordance with the procedures at Dubai Municipality. The violating institutions have also been fined.
The municipality has been carrying out intensive inspections to ensure the safety of consumer products circulating in the market.
Authorities also urged the public to report any violations by contacting the Municipality on its toll-free number 800900 or through its Montaji app.
