The Dubai Police recently rescued a boy with special needs who had locked himself up in his bathroom after an emotional situation.
Engineer Kamil Batti Al Suwaidi, director of the operations room of the Dubai Police said they received a call from a person who could not speak properly and the phone was disconnected abruptly.
The police immediately realised that the call was from a distressed special needs child. They traced the location of the caller and spoke to the boy's family. The boy's brother told the police that he was upset and had locked himself up in the bathroom.
The police who are trained to handle such situations soon convinced the boy to come out of the bathroom.
According to Al Suwaidi, the police have received 369 distress calls from people with special needs. The police gives special services to such people including the elderly and offer them all comfort.
The Dubai Police in cooperation with the Community Development Ministry stores data of special need people including their home address and phone numbers and this is, in turn, linked to the operations room. This helps them respond faster whenever they need help.
He said the details of 8,000 special needs people are linked to the operations room.
