The Dubai Charity Association (DCA) will spend Dh20 million on eligible beneficiaries during the holy month of Ramadan.
This year's Ramadan campaign is themed 'Build dreams. build future' during which the Dubai-based charity will collect contributions needed for the planned charity projects and programmess.
Official figures show that the 36-year-old charity association, founded in 1980 under the name Al Urwatu Al Wuthqa, has spent Dh26.85million on 4,475 disadvantaged families last Ramadan.
Ahmad Mohammed Mismaar, Secretary-General of the DCA, said they intended to spend Dh2.25million on 'Meer Ramadan' packages this year.
"These foodstuff baskets will be contributed to 15,000 poor families worldwide," adding that, "Free Iftar meals worth Dh900,000 will be distributed in 25 mosques across the country."

The charity will also spend up to Dh9.5million on a variety of charity projects abroad, including the key mass Iftar meals which were to be distributed this year in 950 mosques in three continents, Mismaar added.
"Mass Iftar meals will be donated in 18 countries, spanning Ghana, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Mali, Cambodia, Uganda, Sudan, India, Senegal, Benin, Gambia, Togo, Nigeria, Mauritania, Sierra Leone, Guinea Conakry and China."
As for Zakat Al Fitr, up to Dh800,000 will be collected in cash or in kind. Eid clothes worth Dh250,000 will also to be distributed to low-income families and orphans listed with the Association, Mismaar said.
As for the listed orphan beneficiaries, the association has allotted Dh3.5million, which comprises Dh500,000 for local orphans and Dh3million for global ones."
Paying tributes to strategic partners and supporters, mainly the Dubai Islamic Bank which contributed Dh20 million to support the Association's philanthropic projects,
Mismaar said the association's charity projects would not have been possible without the help of strategic partners and supporters like the Dubai Islamic Bank, which contributed Dh20 million.
The association will soon launch an intensive media campaign to promote the planned charity projects among the people.
"The association counters are reachable at all grand malls, hyper markets and shopping centres in Dubai, let alone special tens holding the name and logo of the Society in Jumeirah and Twar areas."
More attention would be given to social media platforms, Mismaar added.
