Residents in Dubai have been warned against the misuse of balconies as they can be fined Dh500 for not complying with the rules.
Property developer Nakheel has sent out a notice to its community members, warning them that unauthorised exterior attachments or alterations will fetch a penalty of Dh2,000. Violators will be issued a notice followed by penalties.
“Airing laundry in the balcony or hanging them from a window or railing, distorts the image of the building and is not permitted. Cigarette ashes and butts pose a serious fire hazard and should not be thrown from balconies or windows,” read the notice, dated November 9.
Moreover, it warned that throwing waste and sharp objects from balconies is strictly prohibited and not to let waste water from cleaning balconies or watering plants flow down to other balconies.
“Please refrain from feeding birds as this creates a nuisance and mess due to droppings. Installation of satellite dishes or any other type of antennae in balconies is illegal and strictly prohibited,” it said.
Residents have been urged to cooperate in maintaining clean and tidy balconies to enhance the external appearance of the buildings and ensure the safety of all residents.
Balconies should not be used for storage of furniture, mops, flammable liquids, toys or other items. Only outdoor furniture is allowed in balconies.
Some of the master developer’s communities include Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Village, Al Furjan, The Gardens, Discovery Gardens, Jebel Ali Village, Dragon City, Warsan Village and International City. Its communities provide homes to over 300,000 people.
