A Pakistani man has gone on trial on the charge of sexually harassing and molesting a female resident.
The defendant, who is a driver, 28, is accused of stalking a Filipina woman and following her to her place, where he asked her to give him her mobile number.
However, once rejected, he allegedly got close to her, kissing her and inappropriately touching her from below her skirt. He faced a molestation charge in the Court of First Instance.
The complaint was registered at Bur Dubai police station on May 3.
"I was walking home from work around 1:30am when I came across him on the road. He told me he wanted to talk to me and requested my number. But I ignored him," said the 31-year-old complainant, who is a restaurant manager.
The woman told the prosecutor that she got inside her building and as she was about to open the door and enter her flat she was shocked to see the stalker behind her.
"All of a sudden he kissed me on my cheek and neck and even touched me below my skirt and groped me. He ran when I pushed and screamed him," she said.
Her flatmates and some people who happened to be near the building helped in catching and restraining him.
"The accused admitted having seen the victim in Al Jafiliya at night. He said he liked her so he talked to her to get her number. He then followed her to her place where he touched and kissed her against her will," a police lieutenant said.
