A Dubai-based Uber 'partner-driver' is among 156 drivers around the world being hailed by the company for helping it mark its five billionth trip worldwide. On May 20, 156 trips started simultaneously at 7.29am (GMT), in 24 countries across six continents, in cities including Dubai, Alexandria, Mumbai and Moscow.
In Dubai, Uber's partner-driver Sardar Muhammad helped Uber reach the milestone on a trip to The Dubai Mall. Sardar has been using the Uber app for approximately one year now, during which time he has completed more than 2,000 trips. "I really like working on the Uber app, and consider myself lucky to be part of completing five billion trips globally," he said.
Uber will be giving each of the 156 drivers who were part of the milestone a total of $500, including Sardar in Dubai.
Chris Free, the general manager of Uber UAE, said: "Having a partner-driver in Dubai be one of 156 who helped us reach this big milestone, only emphasises the global nature of our business and how important each trip around the world is," he added.
Earlier this year, Uber announced Dubai as one of its partner cities for Uber's development of innovative vertical take-off and landing vehicles (VTOLs).
