An office assistant has been charged with blackmail and making criminal threats against a manager.
The 35-year-old Pakistani defendant is accused of threatening an Indian manager of killing him, chopping his body off and then scattering the pieces in the desert.
The Court of First Instance was told the defendant told the manager he had powerful influence which he would use to file malicious complaints against him in case he did not drop his accusations against his friend regarding some bounced cheque case. He did not attend the hearing on Sunday.
The incident was reported to Al Rafaa police.
The complainant, a 39-year-old working as a development manager, said that he received phone calls between November 2011 and June 2012.
"The calls were made by different men. One of them asked to meet me. I was surprised because I did not know him. He said he wanted to solve some issues; but he declined to give further details," the complainant said.
The same person called the manager again and again and threatened to kill him if he did not withdraw a complaint against another man. "He said he would cause me trouble with the police. He also threatened he would stalk me and my family members".
The manager was then threatened by another man and his brother (against whom he had filed complaints) that they would kill him and chop his body off.
He added that the callers were friends.
A Pakistani woman who works as a supervisor said the defendant worked for the land transportation company, where she worked between 2007 and 2009. "We learnt later that he called my husband several times to talk about cheques he had with the company".
The defendant admitted in the prosecution investigation that he made the threatening calls from his friend's phone.
