The exact location of any piece of plot in Dubai and municipal regulations applicable in different zones of the city can now be obtained within seconds, ending the need for investors, real estate dealers and other users to visit the municipality for such details.

The free service can be accessed from any device connected to the internet by clicking on the link: http://plotlocator.dm.gov.ae It can also be accessed through five ATM-modeled kiosks installed at the Land Department, the municipality’s headquarters and the municipal centres in Al Manara and Al Twar.

By entering a property number to the device in which the program is installed, one can find out the permitted use of the land (such as residential, commercial, industrial), the height limits set for the buildings there, specifications for parking slots and the distance to be maintained from neighbouring projects.

Remarks on the land such as total proportion allowed for construction, areas of warehouse and workshop to be provided will also be available on the locator. Users can also email, print or sms the plot details.

The service is considered a smart move for the city’s urban planning and is expected to bring in more transparency in the real estate sector.

The Director General of the Dubai Municipality Hussain Nasser Lootah, who launched the service, said the programme is expected to boost all types of business in the emirate as it contributes to easily finding out the most suitable place for starting any activity or setting up business in addition to other general benefits for the public such as finding exact location and facilities available.

He said the data related to the current and future urban planning would help investors plan their business accordingly.

“It will also make the entire land-related transactions very easy and fast, pushing the public to an unprecedented level of comfort and satisfaction. The service can be accessed via smart devices such as computer, iPad and smart phones,” he said.

Lootah noted that people dealing with buying and selling properties usually have difficulties in getting all details about a plot they are interested in. “Every year, the government allocates 2,000 plots for nationals’ housing projects. When they get it in the paper, they don’t know where they are getting the plot. Now, it is very easy to find out,” he said.

In the second phase, users can also upload the picture of a plot or a building to obtain the plot’s location and other details. Using the geo-coordinates, this feature will allow people to find locations and will be complemented by an address system for Dubai streets that the municipality is working on.

Dawood Al Hajiri, director of Planning Department said all these smart services from the municipality will be available under the umbrella of the application “iDubai” which provides many important information about the city such as Dubai Map, street view, iNotification, QR code reader, employee feedback, pharmacies on duty, coastal weather and DM services.

“The features of this smart service (Plot Locator) are amazing to the extent that it literally beats the entire world in the field of urban planning.”
