Tough luck Opera fans- Dubai Opera's opening night concert tickets are sold out.
Tickets for Spanish maestro's Plácido Domingo's opening night sold out in just three hours after going on sale yesterday.  He is rightly been dubbed as 'the King of Opera,' 'a true renaissance man in music' and 'the greatest operatic artist of modern times', it's no wonder that tickets to his show were the first to sell out.
In addition to winning fourteen Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards, several of his records have gone silver, gold, platinum and multi-platinum.
Tickets for a show at the much in demand venue start from Dhs250, to Dhs6,800 and even Dhs9,600 for an eight person VIP box.  All 2,000 tickets available were quickly picked up by people from more than 20 countries.
Apart from the Spanish tenor's concert, there will be a lineup of 49 other concerts in the first four months of the historic arts complex's launch with shows like The Barber of Seville by Rossini, The Pearl Fishers by Bizet, and the Giselle and Coppelia productions of The Russian State Ballet.
If like us you're still hoping to get your hands on tickets to the opening show, all you have to do is sign up to the waitlist on Dubai Opera's website and you will be contacted by email if additional tickets become available. The waitlist system will notify patrons who have subscribed in strict order of priority should there be further ticket releases.
The demand for tickets has come as surprise even to the people behind this amazing new cultural venue.
"The truth is, this is the first venue of its kind and when we put together the inaugural season we didn't know exactly how popular it would be across the GCC.  The response on day one of tickets sales has been absolutely overwhelming with bookings being taken from more than 20 countries, from Saudi Arabia to the UK, from Germany to Japan," said Jasper Hope, CEO of Dubai Opera of the first day of ticket sales.
The iconic Dubai Opera House in Downtown Dubai overlooking the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Fountain is set to open its doors on August 31 this year.
