A traveller was reunited with Dh50,000 he lost at the Dubai International Airport even before he realised he had lost it. The police returned the cash to the Asian traveller despite him not reporting the lost amount.
According to the police, they handed over the amount within an hour after the passenger lost it. He was boarding his flight to fly out of the country when the airport security team gave him the amount.
"The traveller thanked the police for putting a smile on his face. He praised the police's professionalism, vigilance and swift action," the police said in a statement.
Brigadier Mohammed Ahmed bin Dylan Al Mazroui, director of the General Department of Airport Security, said someone found the amount. However, no passenger had approached the police to report the lost amount.
"From our experience in such cases, the owner usually would either be unaware that he or she had lost valuables or they would be searching for the amount at the airport," Brig Al Mazroui said. "As a result of joint efforts between the search teams at the Airport Security Operations Room and foot patrols, the owner was identified in a record time and his lost money was safely returned to him before he left the country."
