Dubai plans on using technology to prevent crimes even before they are committed

Dubai - Revealed during the recent International Conference for Crime Prevention.

The Dubai Police are planning to use technology to predict and prevent crime before it happens, it was revealed recently during the International Conference for Crime Prevention.
The event inaugurated by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, was attended by senior police officers from all over the world.
Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, stressed their keenness to strengthen local, regional and international cooperation with the law enforcement forces and all other entities concerned.
"Crimes are taking new aspects as to how it is perpetrated, how fast it spreads and the technical tools used in the process. Hence stems the need for joint and combined international efforts to make sure information and data are exchanged and the criminals and wanted people are fast brought before justice."
Finding a mechanism of how to develop international standards for preventing the crime and curbing its rates was one of the main topics of discussion.
Major-General Al Marri highlighted the importance of efficient channels of communication to be made available. "Furthermore, efforts should be unified at the land, maritime and air borders. Technology and artificial intelligence (AI) should be harnessed to take preemptive steps in a way to deter criminals," he added.
Specialised private companies also showcased their latest technologies and security and safety solutions in an exhibition held on the sidelines of the conference.
Latest models of drones on display
Ali Bahlooq, general manager with a telecom networks and security solutions firm, told Khaleej Times on the sidelines of the conference that they are showcasing their latest and innovative products designed for urban safety.
"The purpose of using the AI is to maximise the protection of life, minimise the damage of property and limit the waste of resources. We have on display the latest models of drones that have features including anti-collision censors, video streaming and thermal imaging cameras among others."
He added: "We are a system integrator. We want to keep the city safe, using smart solutions connected to a secure network. Our smart solutions are covered with a secure bubble of LTE communication network.
"The crime prevention starts at an early stage and our purpose is to harness the most sophisticated technology towards sending high alert (regarding the incidents taking place in the field - if there is any risk or criminal violation) by the drones to the headquarters so that the decision-maker can take the necessary response.
"With our products, we aim to help secure the lives of people. Curbing the crime is a journey and we need to use all available tools."
