A new Dubai Police app will alert motorists about traffic accidents and suggest possible alternative routes they can take to avoid traffic jams. The app was launched on Wednesday during the Gitex technology week.
Colonel Khaled Al Razoki, director of smart services department, said the app is available for download on Android-powered devices. Audio and text messages about accidents will be sent to the phones of registered users.
The police also launched an internal app for officers that will help them exchange case files and information.
This will help officers take decisions faster, said Al Razoki.
He revealed that transactions carried out by the police on smart phones reached 552,927.
The Dubai Police's official app has clocked 914,353 downloads, including 318,718 on Apple devices.
He said that revenues from smart services offered by the police increased by 31 per cent as compared to last year.
The Dubai Police app supports multiple languages, including Arabic, English, Russian, German and French, among others.
