In an operation named 'Claw,' Dubai Police foiled an international gang's attempt to promote drugs worth tens of millions in the emirate, police officials have said. The Dubai Police seized 29kg of crystal meth from the Asian gang following a tip-off received by the general department of anti-narcotics last month.
Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, assistant commander-in-chief for criminal Investigation affairs at Dubai Police, said that the special anti-drug operation managed to the dismantling of the Asian gang in record time, preventing them from escaping outside the country.
Maj-Gen Al Mansouri added that the arrest gave a severe blow to the accomplices of the gang, which comprises three big drug lords, two of them from an Asian country, and a third from another country.
Col. Eid Mohammed Thani Harib, director of the general department of anti-narcotics, said that the first defendant Z.M.J., 41, a worker was arrested near a restaurant in Sharjah in collaboration with Sharjah Police. The police raided the suspect's residence and the crystal anesthetic was found hidden in different places not easy to detect. The accused made a large hole in the roof of his bedroom, which is covered with wood to conceal the drugs, and the police also found scales meant to weigh them.
He added that the team later managed to nab the second defendant, called A.G.J., 32, in an ambush in Sharjah while he was delivering the crystal anesthetic to an undercover police.
The police also raided his room at a workers' accommodation where they found drugs kept in small bags and scales to weigh them.
The third suspect, a 51-year-old who came on visit visa, was arrested at dawn from his residence as he was planning to escape to his homeland.
The first suspect was charged with the possession of psychotropic substances with the intention of promoting, the second the possession of psychotropic substances for the purpose of promotion and abuse, and the third with the promotion of psychotropic substances.
