The Dubai Police rescued two men and a woman from drowning off the beach near Burj Al Arab hotel in two separate incidents during the weekend.
Major Ali Abdullah Algosaib Al Naqbi, Head of Maritime Rescue Section at the General Department of Transportation and Rescue, said that the maritime rescuers managed to save the lives of an Asian man and woman after strong waves dragged them into the sea while swimming.
The police received information about the incident and divers responded quickly to rescue both of them. They were given first aid and were taken to the hospital for medical check-up to ensure their safety.
In another incident in the same area, a man was rescued with minor injuries by the rescue team after he was taken by the strong waves while swimming. Major Al Naqbi urged people not to swim at night and to avoid swimming when there are strong waves. The beachgoers should also abide by the instruction of the police and municipality officials and should not swim if they see the red flag that bans swimming at a particular point, he added. He also warned that people should not swim deeper than 300-500 metres into the sea as possibilities of strong current or being hit by ships and boats are high.
He called on the public to call the Dubai Police Operations Room on 999 in case of emergency and to give the correct description of the incident so that police can respond quickly. He said that there are eight maritime points and 22 divers and rescuers in addition to boats and water bikes to serve and rescue people and provide help to them if they face any danger.
