The Dubai Police have prepared a comprehensive traffic plan before the starting of the new school academic year to ensure students' safety.
Colonel Jamal Mohammed Al Bannai, acting Director of the General Directorate of Traffic in Dubai Police, urged motorists - specially school bus drivers - to comply with traffic rules and not to overtake or speed.
He said parents should accompany their children while they board or disembark from school buses and should not let them cross the road on their own. He urged all motorists to stop their vehicles at pedestrian crossings, especially near schools.
Al Bannai urged parents not to talk to their children while driving, and not to drop them off in the middle of the road, or in the opposite direction to avoid accidents.
He said that the Dubai Police have prepared a special awareness programme and lectures with the start of the new academic year. He said they will educate students on how to avoid traffic accidents, cross the roads and also distribute brochures, posters and colouring manuals to students according to their age.
The police will also organise competitions in schools as part of the awareness programme to ensure that students are aware of traffic rules and safety conditions.
Al Bannai said in previous years the police had organised training programmes for security officials in private schools on how to manage traffic, and secure entry and exit of schools. He added that traffic patrols will be deployed in all the streets and roads of the emirate in order to reduce traffic jams and catch any reckless drivers.
