An Emirati policeman who was accused of raping his wife's cousin has been sentenced to one year in jail by the Court of First Instance.
The 28-year-old cop had earlier denied the rape charge and claimed the sex was consensual and that it was the woman, a Filipina, who hit on him.
The complainant, 28, said she was staying with her cousin when the incident took place.
In her statement to investigators, the woman said she had been invited by her cousin to stay at her husband's place and was requested to help him take his medication.
She claimed during investigation, the incident happened on January 18, 2016, about one week after she moved to stay with the couple. The complainant said she was in the kitchen washing dishes and about to prepare food when her cousin's husband invited her to his bedroom.
Even though she resisted, he managed to drag her to his bed and rape her, she claimed. He did not let her use her mobile phone and then kicked her out of the flat, the woman added.
